Information Sent by Choice
A name, phone number or address entered into a search form is sent to the third-party provider that supplies that result. Westminster Residents Directory does not keep a copy of those searches on its own servers. A message sent to the operators contains whatever the sender chooses to include and is used to respond.
Ordinary Technical Logs
Hosting may record an IP address, browser type, viewed pages and timestamps. Those details can be reviewed in aggregate for reliability and traffic patterns. Basic analytics, cookies or advertising measurement may also be used where the hosting or service arrangement provides them.
How the Information Is Used
Technical information supports operation, error repair, aggregate traffic counts and page improvements. Visitor lists are not sold, and the operators do not build an individual profile from ordinary use of the reference.
External Portals and Services
Links lead to county and state portals, OC Public Libraries, archives and other providers. Each destination controls its own collection and privacy practices. The same applies to sponsored search results, which are supplied by a separate company.
Possible Recipients
Hosting and technical service providers may process server logs. Analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above. Information may also be disclosed when valid legal process requires it; otherwise, the reference does not intentionally disclose a visitor’s message or log data.
Security and Retention
The site uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for the operational purposes described above. There are no visitor accounts, passwords or user profiles stored by the reference for someone to access.
Visitors Under 18
The reference is intended for adults and is not directed to children. The operators do not knowingly collect information from a person under 18. If a parent or guardian believes a minor sent information, use the Contact page and the operators will review and remove it where appropriate.
Your California Choices
The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, appears in Cal. Civ. Code §1798.100 et seq. and may give eligible consumers rights to know, correct, delete, opt out of sale or sharing, and limit certain sensitive-information uses, subject to its scope and exceptions. Because this reference keeps little visitor information, a request normally means checking the contact mailbox and relevant server logs. Use the Contact page to ask. Records held by California, Orange County or Westminster custodians are outside the operators’ control, so a correction or removal request for a public record must go to that custodian.
Policy Changes
Revisions will appear on this page with the rest of the policy. Continued use after an update indicates acceptance of the revised terms.
